The Neumann Family

Alfred Neumann moved to the Gold Coast in 1922 as a cabinet maker and builder. In 1948 Alfred and his son Robert formed a company called Pacific Minerals, a sand mining and mineral processing company which produced rutile and zircon. The Company continues to operate today under the name of Currumbin Minerals.

In the early fifties, Robert, Margaret, John, Peter and Bruce commenced their operations by building primitive dredging equipment which supplied sand to the concrete industry and the Little Nerang Dam Project. This initiative founded Currumbin Sand and Gravel and the Neumann Dredging Company now known as Neumann Contractors.

Not long after this Nucon Concrete and Nucrush Quarries started their operations to service the growing demands from the construction industry.

In the seventies the Family’s Gold Coast Oil Company became a distributor for AMOCO Australia Pty Ltd, and now trades as Neumann Petroleum.  Today the fuel company is one of the largest privately owned, independent fuel distribution companies in Australia with 40 service stations throughout New South Wales and Queensland. 

The family continued to research construction products and market opportunities, which led them to explore the reinforced steel industry in Europe. On their return they built their own Reinforced Steel plant, Neumann Steel, and proceeded to produce products like Ribmesh and Ribwire which are widely used in the Australian industry today.
                                                                          
River Sands and Neumann Developments were later introduced into the Family Group of Businesses.  River Sands manufacture filter sands, coloured oxides, pre-bagged concrete and distributes these products nationally and overseas. Our land division, Neumann Developments continues to provide quality land sub-divisions throughout Queensland.

The Neumann companies have helped shape the Gold Coast over the years constructing hundreds of kilometres of canal developments, establishing quarries and providing concrete and rock products to varied industry groups. This foresight and vertical integration ensured the successful expansion of the Neumann Group of Companies.

The family’s entrepreneurial spirit continues in the 3rd generation of the Family as they continue to grow and diversify the businesses. In early 2000 Global Metals was introduced to the Group Specialist steel and metals are now distributed throughout their state branches in Australia.

The Neumann Family believe the success of the Group is largely due to the emphasis placed on innovation, expansion of product ranges and the quality of its people.
